Children's Therapy

Participation in Unwind Your Mind allows a safe space to air and explore mixed up emotions, in order to develop or improve mentally healthy behaviours. Rather than counselling the young person, the intervention gently challenges perspectives and empowers young people by developing key skills, such as communication, reciprocal relationships, resilience and character development.

Using a solution focused, person centred and holistic approach, the psychotherapeutic intervention will enable young people to understand how the brain works, and how stress, anxiety and depression are created. The intervention examines the fight/flight response, and how negative thoughts impact emotions, and ultimately actions or behaviour. This allows for explorative dialogue about management strategies and how responses can be altered, so that levels of hyper arousal can begin to be lowered, and emotional regulation improved, leading to new behaviour patterns being developed.

Additionally, lifestyle factors, such as diet and activity are addressed along with the implications of how this impacts our overall wellbeing.

With commitment from the young person the benefits of engagement in Unwind Your Mind can include changes in perspective and shifts in behaviour, resulting in improvement in self-esteem, confidence, resilience, motivation, communication and relationships.
